Man finds new lease of life after Rossendale eviction with charity’s help

Having been forced out of his home in Rossendale, Badar was left homeless and ended up rough sleeping in a tent outside Manchester Town Hall.

His fortunes changed dramatically when he connected with the Mustard Tree charity, an organisation that ultimately helped him get his life back on track.

Support that transforms lives

The Mustard Tree charity, which operates across Greater Manchester, supports people living in poverty and homelessness. It offers both immediate crisis assistance and longer-term support programmes.

Badar initially approached the charity looking for clothes, but instead received comprehensive help that enabled him to secure stable accommodation and enrol on a college course within three months.

Following his eviction from a shared house in Rossendale at short notice, he met people who pointed him towards the organisation.

Support workers Tsegay and Fadila played a key role in finding him a new home in Stretford. They guided him through searching for housing online and helped with applications for help with the deposit, overcoming initial knock-backs because he wasn’t a Manchester resident.

Education and skill-building opportunities

Alongside housing support, the charity has helped Badar improve his English through conversation classes.

He now attends college three days a week to study English and Maths, and spends a further two days in sessions at Mustard Tree, reporting growing confidence in his communication skills.

Badar also plans to make use of the charity’s employment sessions to look for work, drawing on his previous experience as a carpenter and builder.

The Mustard Tree charity relies on donations to continue its vital work supporting people facing hardship.

These funds enable the charity to provide food, clothing and furniture, as well as training programmes and community support that help vulnerable people build stability and seize opportunities for the future across Greater Manchester.
