St George’s Day parade celebrates community spirit in Rossendale

Rossendale’s annual St George’s Day Parade took place at Stubbylee Park on Sunday, April 27, drawing a vibrant crowd and notable attendees, including local councillors and the Mayor of Rossendale, Judith Driver.

Organised by the Rossendale Scouts, the parade showcased the community’s dedication to celebrating St George, the patron saint of both England and Scouting.

Scout teams from across the district, including beavers, cubs, scouts, and explorers, came together to honour their shared values and commitment to their community.

Awards highlight young people’s achievements

Several Scout members were recognised with awards for their outstanding contributions.

Among the attendees was Rossendale and Darwen MP Andy MacNae, who expressed his admiration for the borough’s youths.

“Great to be part of Rossendale Scouts’ St George’s Day parade today. Congratulations to all those who received awards, and it was inspiring to see so many young people Rossendale can be proud of,” he stated.

Stacksteads Band, a beloved local institution known for its musical talent, led the parade with lively enthusiasm, setting an energetic tone that added to the festive atmosphere.

Their spokesperson shared the joy of seeing the community come together to celebrate, saying, “It was our pleasure to lead the St George’s Day parade in Stubbylee Park, Bacup. Great to see so many people enjoying the sun and celebrating.”

The Scouts also highlighted the significance of St George’s Day, with their spokesperson remarking that it serves as a moment to reaffirm their dedication to helping others and contributing positively to the community.
