Two new skateparks have just been completed in Rossendale, giving a welcome boost to the local community.
These redevelopments demonstrate the council’s ongoing effort to improve public spaces, encourage active lifestyles and create a well-maintained, high-quality environment across Rossendale.
Council unveils upgraded spaces
The state-of-the-art facilities at Victoria Park in Haslingden and Edgeside Park in Waterfoot were officially unveiled by Rossendale Borough Council.
Both parks will be hosting their official opening celebrations in July, inviting riders and the wider community to join the festivities.
The new parks replace outdated kit with modern features that support a broad range of wheeled sports.
Designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind, they cater for all ages and abilities, providing a welcoming space for everyone. They are designed to perform across all forms of wheeled sport, including skateboarding, scooting, rollerblading, BMX and WCMX.
Canvas Spaces, renowned for their expertise, and Proffitts – Investing in Communities (CIC) teamed up to deliver the projects.
Parks reflect Rossendale community priorities
The final designs were shaped to meet the community’s specific needs following extensive consultation with residents and wheeled-sports users.
The Victoria Park project was funded by the Lancashire Environmental Fund, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Rossendale Borough Council. Meanwhile, the upgrades at Edgeside Park were financed through a joint effort by the FCC Communities Foundation and the council.
Head of Environment and Corporate Services, Adrian Lythgoe, said: “The completion of both skateparks is a significant investment in the health and wellbeing of our communities. Designed with strong input from local residents and young people, they show our continued commitment to creating high-quality public spaces that support active lifestyles and bring people together.”
The celebration events will be free to attend and open to the local community. They will feature thrilling competitions across various wheeled sports, with prizes up for grabs in several categories.
The festivities will also include live music, a range of local food stalls and a formal opening ceremony led by the Mayor of Rossendale.
